The following wisdom is from Chad’s About page:
Hey men and ladiezz!
It’s your homeboi Chad.
At 23 years old, I was so fed up with the 9–5 cubicle life that I quit my job after just 3 DAYS.
Yeah, that’s right. I quit my 9–5, moved back into my parent’s guest house, and bought a Macbook Air (the poor version) with my trust fund money so that I could address the Cube Farm crisis.
First of all, for my readers who HAVEN’T been abused by The Man, let me define the atrocity that we call the Cube Farm. You…
Last winter, I took a hiatus from writing.
When I logged back in this week, I noticed something strange. My old flop article, How to Move to Europe from the USA, had racked up over 1.2K views in February and March. The majority of those views came from google.com.
Given the Coronavirus outbreak and the current state of U.S. politics, I wondered if there was an uptick in “how to move to Europe” search queries.
To test this theory, I Googled it.
That’s when I realized that my old, viewless article had been chosen as a featured snippet!
When I sold my trusty ’07 Civic and moved to Oslo last fall, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I landed with a blind hope that I’d find work, make friends, and successfully move-in with my Norwegian boyfriend — the only reason that I knew about this country in the first place.
Miraculously, everything worked out. Five months and 126 job applications later, I am a tax-paying resident and the proud owner of a Norwegian social security number!
Now that I’m “settled” and no longer at risk of deportation, I’d like to document my experience and share…
Three months ago, a family acquaintance reached out to me on LinkedIn. Her company was looking for an English Copy Editor, and I didn’t hesitate to throw my hat in the ring.
Two weeks and one writing test later, I got the job!
A one-year stint as a Technical Writer and some brief experience editing my friends’ grad school applications.
Let’s explore why it didn’t work out.
Like most perfectionists, I write a sentence, make some edits, write some more, and then become frustrated and take a break. I have never submitted a “rough draft” in my entire…
First of all, this platform isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. If you’re looking for an easy way out, put your head down and get writing, or check out my guide at www.getrichquick.org.
When I joined Medium three months ago, I didn’t really know what to write; I just knew I had to write. Writing has been the only constant in my life for the last three months, and I’m so glad someone finally taught me how to do it.
Medium curation is a tricky business, but I was curated for the first time last week and I feel qualified to share…
Sometimes, as I lay on my duvet and scroll through endless pages of online content, I reflect on my favorite non-fiction authors and bloggers.
What makes them so confident in their writing?
Why do I trust their analyses and put faith in their predictions?
Normally, the authors that I follow and look up to have one trait in common: They’re old.
They’re old enough to have Ph.D.’s, kids, and many other life experiences to share with their readers. They’re old enough to gain my trust.
When I was hired as a technical writer fresh out of college, I thought my…
When I was 19, I jetted off to Italy with a scary black pocketbook. It was my first time leaving the U.S., and I didn’t know what to expect.
Who would need to see my pocketbook — err, passport?
What questions would they ask?
Would they speak to me in English, or would I have to download Google translate?
Like most Americans, I was under-traveled and overwhelmed.
I now live in Europe, but I cringe whenever U.S. politicians or news anchors tell Americans to “Leave the country” if they disagree with a policy or position. …
Did you spend your childhood cursing liberals, reciting prayers, and watching Fox News segments with your dad?
Are you eager to break out of your college dorm and showcase your new liberal identity?
Well, what are you waiting for?
I have over five years of experience as a Trashy Cousin®. Some days are harder than others, but I can wholeheartedly say that I love my job. There’s nothing better than waking up to a fresh cup of coffee and a shady Instagram comment from my Aunt.
My favorite topics of familial dissension include healthcare, vaccines, climate change, and…
I’m an American emigrant living in Norway. Life is good. I don’t miss the United States, and my patriotic family often asks me why.
Rather than argue over a good meal, I simply tell them that the U.S. is an okay place to live.
It’s a Level 4 country with Level 4 features such as advanced healthcare, stable Internet, and high wages. Life in the U.S. is more luxurious — for most people — than life in a Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 country.
Some people think that the U.S. …
At the tender age of sixteen, I told my Mom that I didn’t want kids.
The reason? I had finally achieved a “flat tummy”, and I didn’t want to ruin it by giving birth to a baby.
As I write this article, I’m twenty-two years old and sipping on an iced mocha covered in whipped cream. My priorities have changed.
But as I watch the woman across from me cradle her newborn and entertain her three-year-old boy, my nose reflexively crinkles in distaste.
Why is it that I don’t find babies cute? Do their screams contain a mystical Siren call…
